New Mural Highlights Initiatives, Colorizes New Conference Center Exterior

Post Date:07/12/2023 2:57 PM

Tysen Knight paints portion of long mural on stucco wall, lining a city sidewalk, depicting students reading a bookSince the opening of the new RCOE Conference Center in downtown Riverside in the summer of 2022, thousands of students, employees, and community members have participated in hundreds of events and activities inside the facilities—all with three levels of convenient shaded parking.

With the recent addition of an original mural on the outside of the building, now passersby, and those who haven’t yet set foot in the new facility, can learn more about the educational focus of RCOE.

In line with the many murals and public art locations in downtown Riverside, the bright white walls facing 13th Street on one side of the new RCOE Conference Center, served as a perfect canvas to visually depict RCOE’s focus on the four initiatives of Riverside County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Edwin Gomez: Mental Health, Literacy by 5th Grade, Equity and Inclusive Practices, and Financial Literacy.

RCOE sought out Tysen Knight, an international artist, muralist, and award-winning filmmaker based in Palm Springs, to work with Riverside County students to bring his unique street art style to RCOE.

Watch RCOE’s Digital Production Services video (below) to learn more about the murals, the creativity behind designs, the importance of artistic expression and experience, and the artists who brought it to life.
