Riverside County Office of Education
Home MenuThe Equity & Inclusive Practices Initiative promotes the full range of inclusivity and equity within the public school system. A focus of the Equity & Inclusive Practices is to provide educators professional development opportunities that help them integrate the concepts of access and equity into policies and practices, while developing an appreciation of other cultures, languages, orientations, and backgrounds, among diverse groups of students and staff.
The Equity & Inclusive Practices Initiative includes supporting and expanding existing anti-racism, equity, and inclusivity efforts within the 23 school districts in Riverside County.
RCOE's 2nd Annual Lego Fun Fair literally built bridges between special education students and general education students from across Riverside County. Watch Equity & Inclusive Practices in action during this unique event where students with special needs partner up with student mentors to complete a Lego project and try their hand at Esports.
Building Capacity for Equitable Practices
The Equity and Inclusive Practices team provides ongoing opportunities for growth and support to Riverside County school districts and RCOE programs as they begin and continue the work of equity.

Fall 2023 Update
Major outreach events like the Back To School Resource Fair and another year of Winter Wonderland events (including the first in Palm Springs) continue to offer support to students and families in the county while the 10th Annual Excellence Through Equity Conference (see highlights below) provided educators with tools to more equitably serve students.
Plans are being made for success walks and empathy interviews at eight different districts that are incorporating culturally responsive pedagogy, focusing on learner engagement, exhibiting collaborative learning, developing safe spaces, and creating multiple pathways to learning. After the visits, an extensive quantitative and qualitative data analysis will lead to an executive summary that can be presented to other districts as best practices via professional development webinars.
