HiSET® vs. The GED®

The HiSET® and GED® are both high school equivalency exams. Keep in mind, you are not earning “your GED®.” You are earning a “high school equivalency certificate” and only a state or tribal education agency can grant a high school equivalency certificate.

The GED®, HiSET®, and TASC™ have been approved by the state of California for students 18 years old and older, and 17 years old in some instances, for the purpose of receiving a California High School Equivalency Certificate. See the California Department of Education for more state information.

This means that no matter which test you decide to take, you will receive the same state issued California High School Equivalency Certificate.
